Today, ZonMw managing director Veronique Timmerhuis has awarded the Haermonics project with a Pearl for exceptional research, based on the criteria ‘impact, cooperation and implementable results’. The Continuous Postoperative Pericardial Flush diminishes the bleedings after cardio thoracic surgery, preventing complications and mortality. Cardiothoracic surgeon Dave Koolbergen and his team were awarded for the involvement of the users in the development, attracting investors and taking the step to the market. “Haermonics will surely find the investors to bring this to market. The project has a mayor contribution to accessible and effective care”, says Veronique.
Haermonics is a spin-of of Amsterdam UMC. ZonMw has contributed to the scientific proof of efficacy. A grant from Kansen voor West financially supports the cooperation between Amsterdam UMC and Haermonics.
Haermonics aims to save 10,000 lives in 2020.
